Brief Biographical Sketch:

Hi there, I'm the vice president for UR Splash, and am really excited to be planning and teaching this year! I'm a senior computer science, environmental studies and psychology major. I can be pretty nerdy about some things, especially reptiles as of late.

M186: Let's make a website! in Splash Spring 2022 (Feb. 19, 2022)
Make your own website! You'll be making a very simple custom website using HTML and CSS. This course is intended for beginners, even if you've never written code before!

R187: Psychology of Animals in Splash Spring 2022 (Feb. 19, 2022)
Does your pet reptile love you? Did Koko the gorilla really know sign language? Are the crows in your backyard smarter than your dog? We'll address all these questions and more as we explore animal cognition and psychology from an evolutionary perspective. We'll also discuss some interesting experiments and topics such as anthropomorphism and theory of mind.

M154: Making your own website! in Splash Fall 2020 (Nov. 07, 2020)
Just as the title suggests, we'll be diving into HTML, CSS and maybe a little JavaScript to make a basic website. This class is intended for people who have never built a website from scratch before. No prior experience required, though some understanding of basic programming concepts would be helpful. Note that unless you have access to a server or domain, what you make won't actually end up online in this class.

S155: Axanthic, melanistic, lucistic, or piebald: Genetics in the pet trade in Splash Fall 2020 (Nov. 07, 2020)
Most of us have browsed the aisles of our local Petco or Petsmart, looking at the rats, guinea pigs, ball pythons and bearded dragons. But what goes on behind the scenes? Come learn about the different morphs of the pet trade and how they work! We'll be covering some basic genetics, how genes affect phenotype, and some interesting controversies in the world of breeding.

M133: How to Code in ANY Programming Language! in Stratosphere Summer 2020 (Jun. 06 - 27, 2020)
What's the difference between Python, C, and Java? While they are indeed pretty different, the fundamentals are truly the same! Once you understand the concepts of how coding works, it can be easy to pick up whatever language you want to do whatever you want to do. In this class, we'll be going over a couple notable differences between languages but mostly focus on universal concepts such as loops, conditional statements, functions, data types, and arrays.

S134: Herps 101 in Stratosphere Summer 2020 (Jun. 06 - 27, 2020)
Herpetology: the branch of zoology concerned with reptiles and amphibians. Let's talk salamanders, lizards, frogs and snakes! We'll be talking about some interesting species, herps as pets, the hobby of herping, and more! If you have any herps (or other pets) we'll have time at the end to share.

M5: Intro to Java in Splash Spring 2019 (Mar. 30, 2019)
Java is everywhere, in apps, appliances, robots, video games, and more. This course is an opportunity to dip your toes in computer programming. No previous experience required. If you have Java experience or intermediate experience in another language, this may not be the course for you. This course will cover the basics, including how to set up the IDE, creating a “Hello World” program, and concepts such as loops, conditionals, and methods. This class will be held in a computer lab, but if you want, you can bring your own laptop.
